In Levantine Arabic, the verb "حسّ" (ḥass) means "to feel." It's a versatile verb used to express emotions, physical sensations, and perceptions. 

Common Structures and Prepositions with "حسّ"

The verb "حسّ" often pairs with specific prepositions to convey different nuances:

 

  1. "بحسّ مبسوط""I feel happy"

    • Used with adjectives to describe one's emotional state.

    • Example: بحسّ تعبان – "I feel tired."

  2. "بحسّ ب الهوا""I feel the air"

    • Used with the preposition "بـ" (bi) followed by a noun to indicate a physical sensation.

    • Example: بحسّ بالبرد – "I feel the cold."

 

  3. "بحسّ (حالي ب) إنّو...""I feel like I..."

  • Combines "حالي" (ḥālī) meaning "myself" with "بـ إنّو" (bi ennu) followed by a verb clause to express a personal feeling or perception.

  • Example: بحسّ (حالي ب) إنّو رح أمرض – "I feel like I'm going to get sick."

 

  4. "بحسّ فيك""I feel for you"

  • Uses the preposition "في" (fī) followed by a pronoun or noun to express empathy or emotional connection.

  • Example: بحسّ فيه  – "I feel for him."
